Create a scorecard and interview guide

💡 Why should I learn this? Using interview guides improves the quality and fairness of your hiring decisions. Interview guides in Hireguide are also based on skills that are most important for your role so you can take a skills-first approach to hiring.

Learn by watching this video or reading the instructions below.

Define skills to create a scorecard

Interview guides are built at the round level. Start by selecting the desired position from your main positions page, and select the round you will build a guide for (e.g., screening interview, skills interview, etc.). In the desired round:

  • Click the watermelon-colored Add Interview Questions button
  • Choose which skills you would like to assess in the interview round. The skills you select here will become your interview scorecard which you will use for evaluating your candidates.
  • Click Next to access the questions page

Best Practice Tip

🤓 Hireguide suggests spending 5-10 minutes on each skill by asking 2 questions. For example, in a 30 minute interview, you should select 3-6 skills. You can also select general focus areas like ‘motivation’ or company values like ‘entrepreneurial spirit.’

Add questions to an interview guide

The panel on the right side of the page titled ‘My Questions’ is your interview guide. You can add questions to your interview guide in 3 different ways:

  • Start by clicking the + Create my own question button at the top of the interview guide panel
  • To write content from scratch or copy your existing company content, complete all question fields and click Save
  • To use Hireguide’s auto-generated content, select a skill from the drop-down menu or add a new one, and click Auto-generate on the top right corner of the question modal. Then review the content and tailor it to your role, and click Save

Product Tip

🪄 Auto-generate uses specific prompts to import AI-generated content. Hireguide encourages you to review and edit the content to ensure it is appropriate and relevant to your role and company.

Once you’ve filled your interview guide with all the questions you want to ask, simply click Save at the bottom of your guide. This will bring you back to the position page, and your guide will be saved to that round.
